Public Sector

[  USE CASE  ]

Public sector organisations are increasingly exploring AI to enhance service delivery and operational efficiency. AI assurance helps public sector organisations relate the AI landscape to public values and governance standards. We enabled one of our public sector clients have a unified view of all their AI initiatives that now empowers all departments.

Problem

A UK public organisation formed an AI Council to anticipate how AI would impact their sector and to consider how they might use AI to enhance their public service delivery. However, the AI Council struggled to agree on its initial priorities as they could not identify where AI was currently being developed and deployed across all departments. Without a unified view, fragmented AI efforts were multiplying, leading to potential inefficiencies and risks.

Solution

The BeehAIve® platform enabled the AI Council to build an organisation-wide register of all AI models and systems, either being developed or already in use. The AI assurance process was prioritised for the most critical, already deployed, models and the Council reviewed the risk scores. The recommendations generated by the platform helped the AI Council implement a detailed plan for mitigation. Based on these insights, they moved on to full assessments for all AI models still in development – to evaluate any hidden future risks.

Projected Impact

Through the AI assurance process, the Council enhanced its understanding of the risk and governance challenges of AI and the opportunities it could offer the organisation. Moreover, it helped them shape a common framework for developing and deploying AI and how they can collaborate across departments on future projects, reducing the duplication of effort and ensuring a more cost-effective approach. With this newfound clarity, the organisation is better prepared to approach AI in ways that are responsible, effective, and reflective of public values.
